Through the development of this project, students understand:
Building a Drift Trike
The origins of Drift Trikes come from California, USA. Drift Trikes are tricycles with low traction rear wheels that are designed to drift by intentionally initiating loss of traction to the rear wheels and counter steering to negotiate corners.
About the Project
TDS (The Dining Society) provides Chinese and International fine dining experiences for members while trainees obtain comprehensive culinary and hospitality training. For this project, students created a centerpiece for dining tables, creating a festive dining experience and attracting more guests to the restaurant.
This project aims to design and produce a festive centerpiece prototype for the training restaurant (TDS) in Kowloon Bay Campus. The design should be compact, not occupying too much space on the dining table. Students presented in groups their ideas and production of the centerpiece, specifications, survey findings and the stakeholders’ feedback about the prototype.
This project has developed an Anchor-based MR platform to demonstrate the feasibility of mapping physical objects into the virtual world. This platform offers precise and scalable interactions between the MR system and physical objects. Additionally, the platform is flexible and extensible, making it easy to develop MR applications in the future.
The platform is built on VIVE Pro and Unity, with laser-guided trackers incorporated to retrieve precise positions of physical objects, enabling players to have an immersive MR experience. Players can control a mobile vessel as a human analog to interact with the physical world, while a 360° camera installed on it provides a visual view of the vessel. Moreover, the platform has the capability to connect more than two players into the same virtual world through network connection.
Faced with the challenges of engaging students in traditional mathematics education, students recognized the potential of gamification and embarked on a unique collaborative project, aiming to learn mathematic concepts through printed card games and digital card game.
DVE (Electronic and Computer Engineering) students designed the digital card game and DVE (Design and Print Media) students designed the printed card game. The card games help players build problem-solving skills rather than memorization of Maths formulas.
Design Concept
Most maths card games are quite traditional and unappealing to young people. We aim to redesign a maths card game set with colour and graphics more appealing to secondary school students using elements from popular Japanese animation.
Process
First, we interviewed secondary school students to learn more about their preference and and maths teachers to understand their requirements of maths card games. After the focus group interviews and questionnaires, we drafted our design using Adobe Ai and Adobe Photoshop and made several revisions before printing the cards. We also made a demo video to let users learn about the rules of the card games.
This jewellery collection brings together the art of jewellery and the essence of traditional Chinese culture, such as wedding gowns, Chinese opera costumes and Chinese musical instruments. The collection leads the younger generation to appreciate the beauty of Chinese culture and traditional jewellery craftmanship.
