Youth College (Tin Shui Wai) is honoured to participate as a supporting partner in the Tong Mi Footbridge Community Art Project, an inspiring community initiative led by Ms May Yeung, sculptor and founder of “Art of My Family”. Supported by the Home Affairs Department and the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the project aims to revitalise public spaces through art while promoting social inclusion, community engagement, and youth development.
A key highlight of the project was the “Ripples of Sound Workshop” held on 31 January 2026. Five students from the S3 and S6 of Diploma of Vocational Education (Information Technology) Programme actively participated in the kick-off ceremony and served as student helpers throughout the event. The workshop brought together a diverse group of artists, community leaders, and organisations, including Ms May Yeung, ceramic artist Ms Rosanna Li, representatives from the 333 Learning Companion Leadership Programme, members of the New Home Association, and Mr Kent Yau, Honorary Chairman of the Hong Kong Nunchaku Association. The event provided a valuable platform for cross-sector collaboration, community engagement, and creative exchange.
As part of the creative process, participants collaborated to create Bruce Lee-inspired artwork that symbolised strength, resilience, and confidence. Two Diploma of Vocational Education (Information Technology) Programme students, CHANG Yee Ching, Charlotte and CHUNG Yat Long, Sunny, worked alongside members of the New Home Association and the 333 Learning Companion Leadership Programme to contribute their creativity and ideas, adding vibrant colours and meaningful expressions to the final design of the Tong Mi Footbridge in Yau Tsim Mong.
The project engaged over 300 students, primarily from ethnic minority communities in Yau Tsim Mong, Kwun Tong, and the Northern District. Youth mentors from the Youth College of Vocational Training Council, HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity, and St. Francis of Assisi’s College were trained to support the initiative, fostering sustained community care, youth empowerment and artistic development.
Spanning Cherry Street, Ferry Street, and Tung Chau Street, the Tong Mi Footbridge serves as a vital pedestrian link connecting Tai Kok Tsui, Olympian City, and Mong Kok MTR Station. Through this transformation, the bridge has become more than just a functional passage; it now stands as a vibrant cultural landmark that enriches the urban landscape, bringing warmth, inspiration, and artistic expression into the fabric of everyday urban life.
