Students from Youth College (YC) and Youth College International (YCI) achieved remarkable success at the OSH INNO Expo 2026, held on 2–3 June 2026 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Jointly organised by the Labour Department and the Occupational Safety and Health Council, the Expo brought together over 100 organisations from Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area and overseas to showcase innovative occupational safety and health (OSH) technologies and solutions.

A major highlight for Youth College was the outstanding achievement of a team of YC and YCI students, who received the OSH Innovation & Technology Award – Gold Award and Most Popular Innovation Award (Secondary Category) for their project, “Smart Escalator Maintenance Safety System (SEMSS)”.

Awarded for its innovative, human-centred design and strong technical feasibility, SEMSS was developed to enhance the safety of frontline technicians during escalator servicing and maintenance. This intelligent safety solution addresses the challenges of high-risk maintenance environments through the integration of smart technologies, including automated safety monitoring, real-time anomaly alerts and advanced safety control features. The system helps monitor working conditions, identify potential hazards and prevent workplace accidents.

The SEMSS project attracted significant attention during the Expo and was featured as one of the key highlights during the VIP tour. Prior to the award presentation ceremony held on 3 June, the winning students shared their development journey and project insights with participants, showcasing how innovative technologies can contribute to further elevating the standards of OSH.

The two-day Expo featured seven themed exhibition zones, as well as conferences and sharing sessions led by local and international experts. Through their participation in this prestigious industry event and their award-winning achievement, YC and YCI students not only demonstrated their technical capabilities and innovative thinking but also reflected Youth College’s commitment to nurturing future talent in technology, engineering and occupational safety.
